Challenge note 01
Flood recovery and siltation
The lower Tana basin floods often and severely, so flood defences have to last well beyond a single construction cycle.

The lower Tana River basin floods heavily every season. Over the years, uncontrolled floodwater has eroded protection dykes and dumped large volumes of silt into the main supply canals, restricting the flow of water to the fields.
Our response is to reinforce the dykes systematically using heavy compaction, de-silt the canals continuously by machine and fit automated intake sluice gates. Government allocations and private investment fund the work together.
This is infrastructure for a working floodplain, not a one-off construction job. Reliable water delivery protects yields, makes planning possible and gives farmers the confidence to invest in a coordinated production cycle.
