Progress note 02

Infrastructure rehabilitation progress

Dykes, intake and canals: the physical backbone of Polder 1 is well ahead of where it stood a year ago.

Rice field prepared for commercial production

Polder 1's protection dykes are 65% rebuilt and raised, using heavy compaction designed to withstand a 50-year flood. The main intake and sluice structure is fully operational after the gates were restored and sediment traps installed.

Eighteen kilometres of main supply canal have been de-silted, restoring gravity flow to the design specification. Twelve kilometres of internal drainage channel have been cleared and re-engineered to shed storm water quickly.

Each of these is a precondition for scale. Without dependable flood protection, intake control and drainage, better agronomy and machinery cannot deliver consistent commercial yields.
